Positions

The Election Board is a group of poll workers assigned to each precinct in Volusia County.  Duties vary and may include standing, bending, stooping and lifting approximately 15-20 pounds; also requires normal vision and manual dexterity.

The different positions are as follows:

Clerk

• Manages all precinct operations
• Oversees and ensures all members of the Election Board carry out their duties and responsibilities as required by law
• Responsibilities prior to election day include:
  • Meet the Supervisor of Elections staff the day before Elections for supply/equipment delivery
  • Set up polling site the day before Election
• Returns ballots and equipment to a designated drop site Election night
• Trained in all positions
• Attend required training class (4-6 hours)

Assistant Clerk

• Manages the voter assistance table
• Verifies a voters' eligibility to vote
• Correctly operates the EViD (Electronic Voter Identification system)
• Correctly issues ballots
• Processes paperwork and answers voter questions
• Must be able to assume all duties of the Clerk should he/she become unavailable
• Attend required training class (4-6 hours)

EViD Inspector/Operator

• Verifies the eligibility of voters
• Correctly operates the EViD (Electronic Voter Identification system)
• Verifies the voter's signature
• Correctly issues ballots
• Attend required training class (3 hours)

Voting Equipment Operator

• Operates the voting equipment
• Responsible for maintaining the proper operation of voting equipment and assisting voters on the use of the equipment
• Uploads election results
• Breaks down voting equipment election night
• Attend required training class (3-4 hours)

Poll Deputy

• Greets and directs voters to the polling room
• Enforces the 150 ft. No Solicitation boundary
• Maintains peace and good order
• Deputized by the Volusia County Sheriff's Department
• Attend required training class (1-2 hours)
